Route 1

Monte Fontane is the easternmost peak on the northern edge of the Valle del Bove. Along the trail leading to Monte Fontane, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the summit craters and more. Looking southward, the landscape opens up to the entire Ionian coastline — a stunning fusion of sea and lava flows that will quite literally leave you breathless.

Along the way, you’ll also encounter the largest specimen of Turkey Oak (Quercus Cerris) in the area — a majestic member of the beech family that has grown along the mountain ridge and is listed among Italy’s monumental trees.

We recommend this itinerary especially at sunset, when the Valle del Bove is illuminated by extraordinary displays of light and color that only Mother Nature can create.

Trekking shoes are required.
